What should you know?
- Society of the Month: every month we celebrate and promote a society
that has put the effort to provide an exceptional experience to their
members. Any students, staff and externals can nominate a society for
society of the month.
- Society Excellence Awards: all societies are eligible to apply for a Society
Excellence Award (Bronze, Silver, Gold) if they meet the criteria.
- Your End of Year Celebration: At the end of every year, we'll host an
activities celebration event to celebrate all your achievements!
Society excellence awards
SU Societies are some of the most hard working and successful students on
campus and we want to acknowledge the great work they do and the time and
effort they put in running activities for other students.
We have created a Societies Excellence scheme that rewards standards, activities
and performance. We want our societies to be rewarded and attain bronze, silver
or gold standard.
Societies can nominate for an excellence award at any time in the academic year
and will be sent to the activities team for verification.
Bronze
You must complete 10 criteria.
You'll receive a digital package with Your Society Website Rosette, you will be
highlighted in our Society Excellence Article, and we will add a shout out to the
Societies teams channel.
Silver
You must complete 12 criteria.
You'll receive a digital package with Your Society Website Rosette, you will be
highlighted in our Society Excellence Article, we will add a shout out to the
Societies teams’ channel and you’ll also be spotlighted in our Instagram page
(@covunistudents).
Gold
You must complete 15 criteria.
You'll receive a digital package with Your Society Website Rosette, you will be
highlighted in our Society Excellence Article, we will add a shout out to the
Societies teams’ channel, and you’ll also be spotlighted in our Instagram page
(@covunistudents). Additionally, you’ll have a committee Photoshoot and media
interview summarised as specific news article.

Take part in the Activities Fair

Collab with your coordinator |
Meet with our coordinator at least twice a semester. |
Submit the dates you met with them on, your coordinator will verify this |
Host a successful election round |
Work to elect a new committee for the next academic year. |

Send an email to society members |
Using admin tools on SU society page to send an email to society members or interested members. |

coordinator. You should be able to submit receipts of finances and/or have an approved SGF request
showing the movement of funds. |

Collaborate with members of the local community for an event e.g., schools, local
organisations/charities |

Attend a minimum of one development workshop during the academic year. |

Sell merchandise

Sell merchandise during the academic year. |
Keep regular communication with your society coordinator and have an email confirmation regarding
merch. |
Complete a development plan

Complete the development plan and attend at least one development plan meeting. |
