Community Engagement Lead
Alex Powell (He/They), MEng Mechanical Engineering

What would you like to achieve in your role this year?

I would like to keep leading positive change for the LGBTQIA+ community across the university. I want to help improve the policy in place for trans+ students and help continue the great work the previous community lead has been doing with the Non-legal name change policy. I also want to create connections with local LGBTQIA+ organisations to help students feel more welcome across Coventry and the wider area as well as on campus. Overall I want to ensure that LGBTQIA+ students and staff feel welcome on campus and feel free to be themselves.

Activities

Every year we celebrate LGBT+ History Month, celebrating the history of LGBTQ+ rights, raising awareness and promoting equality and diversity. Previously we have hosted queer words, drag nights, panel talks and film screenings. If you would like to get involved in the planning or have an idea for LGBT+ History month (February), please contact the LGBTQIA+ Students Community Engagement Lead or email community.su@coventry.ac.uk.
