The deadline to replace your BRP card with the new e-Visa is approaching. Find out what this means and what action you need to take.
On 31st December 2024, most biometric residence permits (BRPs) will expire as they are being transitioned to a new eVisa. This expiration does not impact your immigration status, however, after this date, you’ll need to replace your BRP with an e-Visa, which is free and straightforward.

What Do I Need to Do Now?
- Create a UKVI Account to Access Your e-Visa
Your e-Visa will replace your BRP and serve as proof of your immigration status in the UK.
2. Before you start to create a UKVI account, you will need:
- Access to a smartphone
- A mobile phone number
- An email address
- Your BRP card or valid passport with your BRP number or visa application number
After Setting Up Your e-Visa
Once you’ve created your UKVI account and accessed your e-Visa, keep your BRP card. Although it will expire, it may still be useful for future applications or personal records.
