However, I am no stranger to the role, having been in office for the 2022/2023 academic year, representing you at key meetings and enhancing your university experience in any way possible, which I will continue to do over the coming months.

Like many of you at CU Scarborough, I have spent much of my years growing up in Scarborough, attending school here and continuing onto college, in which I failed my Psychology A-Level! Having spent many years studying in Scarborough, I decided to move away and enjoy the city life in Newcastle as I attended Northumbria University studying BSc Criminology. However, I decided that this wasn’t the path I wanted to take and this turbulent time affected my mental health, which has led me to become passionate about mental health and helping others.

After having a variety of different roles, mainly within the hospitality industry, I worked for national and local companies, as I developed my skills and made lifelong friends. As time passed, I felt it was the right time to develop myself further and go back to academic life and come to CU Scarborough.

In my first year I voted in the Student Union elections, and this is when I felt that the role of Scarborough Campus Officer is a role that appealed to me, allowing me to develop as an individual as I wanted to use my knowledge and experience of higher education, to ensure fellow students had an enjoyable and memorable experience at university. Therefore in 2022, I decided to run for the Campus Officer role, and after a successful campaign, I was elected to take office for the 2022/23 academic year. During this time, I developed many skills and had the privilege to work and get to know many fellow students from a variety of backgrounds, of which I developed lifelong friendships, and I admire them as they move on into employment.

After having such a wonderful experience, which I will never forget, I decided to run again for officer in the 2023 by-election, in which I was elected to represent you at Campus Officer until 7 June 2024.

Even though this is a short-term role, I will be looking to use the skills and knowledge from my last term in office, to enhance the student experience for you all as much as possible within the time that we have. Over the next few weeks, I will be spending time on campus, getting to know as many of you as possible, listening to your views and making sure you have the best experience at university. Keep an eye out for the variety of drop-in sessions and activities that I will be doing on campus and if you have any specific activities or events you want to see, do let me know.

If you see me around campus, look out for my recognisable branded Your SU hoodie and come say hi! Alternatively, you can send over an email to me at ad8567@coventry.ac.uk.

I look forward to seeing you all around campus as we head into block 4!
