This report is a summary of the work your Education Officer has done so far in their tenure. They will be answering questions and explaining their work during the upcoming Officer Accountability Panel. You can book your free space for the Officer Accountability Panel.

Manifesto 1:

Student rep recruitment restructuring and improved reward system. The aims are below:

  1. Monthly advert on SU website, social media and newsletters on available rep roles, rep of the month and rep rewards.
  2. Conduct some research on the current rep recruitment and reward packages available
  3. Collecting videos and short written testimonies (approx. 12 different ones) from different Reps to promote on website, all SU Social media handles, AULA every 2 weeks.
  4. Monthly meeting with PTOs and Quarterly meetings with Reps to discuss challenges in their roles and how to overcome, and also any ideas on how we can better promote rep roles/opportunities, and to review impact of current actions taken.
  5. Meet with commercial to discuss Student extra package and other rewards for reps

Progress Updates:

  1. Research on the current rep recruitment and reward packages conducted.
  2. Concluded plans with SU commercial unit to secure student extra cards free for all trained Reps.
  3. PTOs to produce videos on how to sign up to become a rep, roles of a rep and benefits.
  4. Secured 10% Discount for all purchases by trained Reps in any of the SU catering outlets (Union Streat Kitchen and Café, The Leaf)
  5. Secured Dominos Pizza sponsorship for Rep social event.
  6. Rep recruitment and advert for vacant position listed on bulletins and website.

Manifesto 2:

To increase Student academic/course success rate through involvement of student in co-creating course timetables and curriculum development. The aims are below:

  1. Provide student reps with guidance in quarterly rep meeting on how to collect feedback and deliver it to course directors, specifically on timetabling concerns.
  2. Analyse YCC data collected and identify any trends relating to timetabling.
  3. Support with active promotion of online feedback tool for gathering timetabling feedback
  4. Speak to each college staff, with relevant PTOs present (assoc heads for quality, assoc dean for quality, and assoc heads for student exp and dean for student experience), to understand/send info on how they currently involve students in co-curricular development.
  5. Monthly Meetings with PTOs - to discuss feedback trends, check in on work doing and any support needed etc. Specific agenda point focusing on timetabling feedback trends.
  6. Take on a facilitative role between students/reps and relevant course staff, should students wish to suggest ideas or help to co-create their curriculum, introducing both parties to each other and helping them to find solutions.
  7. Draw data together on timetabling into a paper to present to the university
  8. Host a themed roundtable event with reps and the university themed around timetable (semester 1) and Co-curricular roundtable themed semester 2

Progress Updates:

  1. Attended Student Voice Working Group meeting for CBL, CAS, and SHC.
  2. Attended the Student Voice Working Group meeting for CBL, Issues on timetables were raised and treated immediately with recommendations that students should always be communicated to and on time if they will change on timetable for proper planning.

Manifesto 3

Increase awareness of academic support services available to students to enhance academic success, best practices, activities and overall educational experience. The aims are below:

  1. Awareness campaigns through emails, social media, Aula, and the yourSU website
  2. Set up 4 stalls (with pop up stands) to share resources on available academic support services
  3. Organise two major academic kick-off event in collaboration with Talent teams, Success Coach and CAW, IT Unit, CURA, SU skills and Phoenix + and Academic integrity team Tagged 'NOW YOU ARE ENROLLED… WHAT NEXT?’

Progress Updates:

  1. Organised the first Academic Kick – ‘NOW YOU ARE ENROLLED… WHAT NEXT?’
  2. Mapped out days and location of stalls

Manifesto 4

Support with the ongoing programme within the education engagement team, for reps and the collation of student feedback. The aims are below:

  1. Rep conference- support with up to 2 rep conferences, including setting of agenda, promotion of event, delivering content etc.
  2. Rep socials- support with the creation of a timetable of 5 rep socials (3 first semester, 2 second semester), promotion of socials, leading on socials etc. Expand into London/Scarborough campuses.
  3. GOALling and GOATing- support with collection of student feedback through GOALling and GOATing initiatives.
  4. Student Voice Awards- support planning and delivery of annual awards ceremonies. Expand attendance to wider rep pool.
  5. Varied attendance at YCC's and SVWGs to support feedback delivery

Progress Updates:

  1. Support with plans for Rep conference and delivering content
  2. Organised the first Rep Social and plans completed for second Rep Social
  3. Attended Student Voice Working Group for SHC, CBL and CAS
  4. Mapping of days, time and location for GOALing and GOATing done

Other duties and activities:

Organised ‘Your SU and You’ officer’s event, supported in the Onam celebration event, Involved in the NUS campaign on abolishment of Guarantors for Student accommodation, Represented student’s voice in all University Governing Board and committee’s meetings.
